What is the Parent-Child Home Program?

PCHP is a free, home-based literacy program that assists families in developing pre-reading skills with children 2 and 3 years of age.

What is a home-based program?

Participating families are visited twice each week for 30 minutes at the parents' convenience within their home.

What do you do at a home visit?

In play sessions with the parent and child together the Literacy Visitor brings carefully chosen books and toys and demonstrates techniques that facilitate verbal interaction and learning through play.

How does this program benefit my child?

Research indicates that the younger children are introduced to reading and develop pre-reading skills the more successful they are when they attend school JPCHP also strengthens families by increasing parent-child interaction.

RELAY FOR LIFE 2008 NEWS

The theme for this year's Relay for Life is "Rock'n and Roll'n for a Cure. It should be an exciting time at the Saxton Liberty Elementary Track June 27-28th. The Station Striders, a Relay for Life team from the Saxton Station Pharmacy, has initiated a huge project to help the community to gear up for The American Cancer Society's signature event. They have purple t-shirts for sale that will have a picture of a record and"Relay for Life 2008" as a crest on the front and a jukebox with "Rock'n& Roll'n for Cure" on the back. The project encompasses all the businesses in Saxton so that everyone working on Fridays from Memorial Day until the Relay will be wearing their purple shirts. Everyone is invited to participate by ordering a shirt for $10 at any of the participating businesses through the end of April and then wearing the shirt to work, to school, while running errands or just cleaning the house through the month of June.

In addition, the Rebel Rousers have a large purple bows for sale at the Station Pharmacy for $3.50 so that your house, your fence or your mailbox can be "painted purple" as well.

Food Pantry at the Immaculate Conception Church in Dudley is open for distribution the 4th Friday of every month from 11:00am - 2:00pm. Everyone is Welcome

Bingo RW&BT Monday night every week, Games start at 6:30pm.

Bingo Saxton VFC Wednesday night every week. Doors open 5pm, games start at 6:45pm

May 10th: Big Bingo at the Immaculate Conception Church in Dudley. Doors open at 5:30pm, Early bird at 6:30 and games at 7:00. Proceeds to the Church relay for life team. Donation $10.00.

May 11 th: Swiss SteakDinner at RW&BT Fire Hall. Doors open at 11:30am. Cost Adult $8.00; Childern $4.00. Carry outs available 635-2495.

May 17th: RW&BT Big Bingo. Open at 4pm games start at 6pm. Kitchen open.

May 18th: Lets Ride Dice Run. Pre-registration $15.00 per bike, $10.00 or passenger, the first 25 to register will receive a tee shirt. registation must be received by 4/18/08 call 814-635-2159 for forms and info. Registration from 8-11:30am. Come early for coffee and donuts. All bikes to be out by Noon. and return no later than 5pm. Route will start at the Broad Top Community Center and travel through Huntingdon, Bedford and Blair counties. First and last roll will be at the Community Center. Dinner at the end will be all you can eat BBQ with all the fixings.

May 25th: The Hallelujah Hickers, Relayu forLifeteam at Tussey Mountain is having a spiritual concert by the"Gods Singer Boys and Family" at 6:30pm at the Robertsdale Church of God. Admission is donation only. Proceeds to the American Cancer Society.

June 14th: Benefit Ride & Pig Roast for Jessia Zeigler, burn victim. Will be held at the Shade Gap Picnic grounds. Registration is from 8-11:30am with rides leaving at Noon sharp. $20. per bike.
